I do feel exhilarated...this is how I felt when I wrote all of those songs...
it was real but unreal simultaneously.
Ok, so let's take connecting to the cellular level.
Every cell has a plasma membrane which is like jello with little rafts of cholesterol supporting proteins... it is the 'brain' of the cell
Every protein in that membrane has a unique shape (tertiary or quaternary structure) which bestows unique functions...
every individual has their own unique collection of these proteins...
but many are common to a species or even to living creatures...these are called highly conserved...
Within that membrane there are proteins that identify self...
recognize sameness...
recognize and protect against other or foreign...
there are also receptor proteins that collect and transmits signals into the cell and out of the cell...
alot of the recognition function is based upon sugars (carbohydrates) that are linked to the outer surface of the membrane protein...
What if, when a person is traumatized or abused, specifically by another human or even a familiar human...
what if the cells react by shutting down the signal receptors and amplifying the protective factors??? That's chemical and biological isolation... It could be as simple as changing the sugars attached to the membrane proteins...it could be exquisitely simple.
That's potentially the basis for an individual isolating themself after abuse...
they turn on protective factors and don't or can't receive communication from others on a real, interpersonal level...
It can be expanded to ecosystems....when we lose connection with the land and all of the inhabitants we imagine that we are the only species that really matters...and we exploit the rest or kill them...we fail to see their worth to the whole.
Connection and communication is the basis of health...
connected in a symbiotic, interdependent relationship...
too much of our world is parasitic...it makes me sad.
More tomorrow.
Love,
Maggie
